Black History Month & Diwali events in Sutton
Join us this October for events, exhibitions and activities that celebrate the great and growing diversity of the London Borough of Sutton!
Message from Kelly Saini Badwal, Head of Sutton Cultural Services:
“Culture and diversity are and always have been inextricably linked. One the most important facets of Cultural services is its ability to bring people together- to engage residents by celebrating and recognising cultural diversity within Sutton. Bringing local people from all backgrounds and ages together, enables us to reinforce strong connections, a sense of community and that culture is for everyone.
With this in mind, I have the pleasure of introducing this year’s programme of Black History Month and Diversity events within London Borough of Sutton’s Cultural Services.
Promoting and celebrating diversity is a subject very close to me. I have had the pleasure of working with organisations to promote and celebrate diversity including supporting newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers and working with supplementary schools - after school clubs - to keep mother-tongue languages and cultures from different countries alive.
As an avid fan of all things Bollywood I’m particularly looking forward to the workshops with Apsara Arts!
We hope that everyone will find something within this programme that they will enjoy, will interest them, teach them something new, and feel proud to be a Sutton resident.”
