Welcome to the Wandle Fortnight
This weekend sees the return of the Wandle Fortnight, a celebration of the Wandle Valley run by the community for the community.
Many of the events focus on or take place near the River Wandle, which runs for nine miles from Croydon to Wandsworth and goes on to connect with the Thames.
The festival runs across three weekends from Sep 10 to 25, with a variety of events and activities, mostly in Merton, Wandsworth and Sutton.
Walks, tours, local history exploration and venue open days are taking place over the course of the fortnight. Carshalton Water Tower and Gardens, Merton Chapter House and St Mary's Church, Beddington are a few of the places open to the public.
Look out for crafts and trails, a textile exhibition plus a display of photographs and ephemera at the Wandle Meets the Thames exhibition.
Most of the events and activities are free and don't require pre-booking but donations are encouraged and always appreciated.
