Shalamar

Two of the most popular Jazz Funk & Soul bands of the 80’s come to Fairfield Halls for a special one off concert –as both bands enjoyed their biggest success chart wise in 1982 this event could be rightly billed as a 40th Anniversary Celebration concert!.

USA Soul Disco legends Shalamar feature 2 original members from the line up that played Fairfield Halls back in November 82 as part of the incredibly successful Friends album tour – an album that went onto sell over 1,000,000 copies in the UK alone! Featuring the hit, singles A night to Remember, Friends, I can make you feel Good & There It is. Amazingly, this event on the 18th June will be the band’s first headline appearance at Fairfield’s since the tour in 1982!

Original members Howard Hewett & Jeffrey Daniels are now joined by Carolyn Griffey on female lead vocals., Carolyn has been with the band since 2006 and is the daughter of Dick Griffey, the man who created the band in 1977 and also produced the famous Soul Train TV show.

Special guests on the night will UK Jazz Funk legends Shakatak – a name instantly familiar to those on the South London club circuit back in the early 80’s. In 1982 the band released their 2nd album Night Birds, establishing the bands trademark jazz-funk sound, and containing two of the band's biggest hits, Easier Said than Done & Night Birds.

The band still features 3 original members from the 80’s – Keyboardist Bill Sharpe, Lead singer Jilly Saward and drummer Roger Odell along with bassist George Anderson

1 concert, 2 bands and over 12 Top 20 singles between them., If you were on the South London Clubbing scene back in the 80’s then this is an essential night out!
