The popular 66 mile Vanguard Way walking route from Croydon to Newhaven will be relaunched on Saturday 28th May with a presentation of its new photoguide app - a route description for smartphones.
The Vanguard Way is fully-waymarked and mostly follows footpaths and bridleways. The Vanguard Way passes through some of the best countryside in southern England: North Downs, High Weald, Ashdown Forest, South Downs and Sussex Heritage Coast. Near the end is the iconic view of the Seven Sisters and coastguard cottages.
For forty years the trail has been managed informally by members of the Vanguards Rambling Club, but at the relaunch management will be handed over to a formal Vanguard Way Association.
Starting 2.30 pm on Saturday 28 May, the relaunch will take place at St Matthew’s Church in Chichester Road, Croydon.
Bookings must be made in advance through firstname.lastname@example.org, 020 8886 8285.
The Vanguards Rambling Club was established in 1965 in the guard’s van of a train, as recalled in the colourful Vanguard Way trail badge.
The Vanguard Way links with other popular trails: London Loop, North Downs Way, Greensand Way, South Downs Way and England Coast Path. A free route description can be downloaded at vanguardway.org.uk
